Twin heartache as sisters both battle killer disease

You would never suspect these cute twins had known any pain or suffering in their short lives.But little Lauren Williams, three, is in desperate need of a heart transplant. Her twin sister Katie is recovering from a heart swap - and their mum needs the surgery, too. They all have a rare heart condition called dilated cardiomyopathy, which causes the heart to enlarge.

D'Zhana Simmons, 14, was kept alive by a custom-built artificial blood-pumping device. It is the first time a child has survived for so long in this manner.The teen from South Carolina said the experiencing living with the help of a machine was 'scary.' Miss Simmons suffered from dilated cardiomyopathy, where the patient's heart becomes weakened and enlarged and doesn't pump blood efficiently.
