Nurse force fed medicine to OAPs

A nurse who force-fed medicine to two elderly patients has been convicted of two counts of ill treatment and one of neglect. Penelope Webber, 52, wrestled one patient and knelt on another's chest at Whitchurch Hospital, Cardiff, a jury was told. She said she had never assaulted a patient in her 20-year career. Webber, of Aberdare, Rhondda Cynon Taf, who had denied the charges at Cardiff Crown Court, will be sentenced later.
NHS embraces 'legal bete noire'

The NHS is turning to no win, no fee legal representation - despite being a persistent critic of the practice. The health service has spent the last few years complaining the no win, no fee culture has led to a rise in costs incurred in medical negligence cases. But the NHS Counter Fraud Service is now embracing the system after reaching an agreement with a law firm in a bid to recoup more money lost to fraud. Patient groups accused the NHS of double standards.
GP convicted over bottom smacking

A doctor has been ordered to do unpaid community work after being convicted of sexually assaulting two patients. Dr Rajinder Aggarwal, from Ilford, east London, smacked the women's bottoms and asked about their sex lives. He was given a nine-month community order, which included 80 hours of unpaid work and a requirement to be supervised by the Probation Service. Judge Mitchell, sentencing at Basildon Crown Court, also ordered the GP to pay £3,000 towards court costs.
Ruling over Southall GMC ban due

Paediatrician David Southall is set to discover if a decision to strike him off the medical register has been overturned by the High Court in London. The General Medical Council (GMC) struck off Dr Southall in 2007 after he accused a mother of drugging and murdering her 10-year-old son. It had ruled he was guilty of serious professional misconduct.
Nurse who spoke out settles with NHS trust

A nurse agreed an out-of-court settlement today with the NHS trust which fired her for speaking publicly about her fears over privatisation. Karen Reissmann had claimed unfair dismissal by her employers, Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust, who sacked her for gross misconduct. Both parties reached a private agreement midway through her employment tribunal hearing.
IVF doctor cleared of sex charge

A fertility doctor has been cleared of sexually assaulting one his long-term female IVF patients. Dr Edwin Onugha, 60, of Woodclose, Redhill, was found not guilty of sexual assault by the jury at Guildford Crown Court following a three-day trial.
Fight to use dead husband's sperm

The woman, who cannot be named, wants to use sperm taken from her husband after he died unexpectedly during a routine hospital operation last year. The mother-of-one applied for an emergency court order allowing his sperm to be taken shortly after he died and it is now being stored in a clinic.
