Knee injuries could be healed by 'living bandage' made from stem cells

(Telegraph 16/11/2008)

Scientists at Bristol University have now managed to heal cartilage tissue in a laboratory with stem cells taken from a patient's own bone marrow. They placed the cells inside the tear, held in place by a spongy scaffold made from collagen, and found the stem cells brought the two pieces of torn cartilage together. The team will now test out the treatment on their first patients.
