(The Scotsman 11/06/2009)
NEARLY 30 people in the Lothians fell ill from mumps last week, figures have shown. Statistics issued by Health Protection Scotland have shown a rise in the number of cases in the area. Twenty-eight people contracted the illness, while 26 people got food poisoning. There were 109 cases of chickenpox and three instances of scarlet fever, as well as a case whooping cough and rubella.
(The Scotsman 18/04/2009)
NINE cases of mumps were among the infectious diseases recorded in the Lothians last week. The area's count made up for more than half of the country's overall cases, with the majority understood to have occurred in 15-24-year-olds. Although the figure is higher than it has been for some time, it is not thought to be high enough to cause any concern among health chiefs.
Mumps cases 'on the rise' again
(BBC 09/04/2009)
Cases of mumps are once again on the increase, with university students being hardest hit, latest figures from the Health Protection Agency show. Up to the end of February there were almost 1,000 confirmed cases in England and Wales - more than triple the number in the same periods in 2007 and 2008. The figures are still far from what was seen in the last major epidemic in 2005 when 43,000 cases were reported.
