Bloodstream infections can be avoided with a daily scrub solution bath

Giving critically ill hospital patients a daily bath with a mild, soapy solution of the same antibacterial agent used by surgeons to "scrub in" before an operation can dramatically cut down, by as much as 73 percent, the number of patients who develop potentially deadly bloodstream infections, according to a new study by patient safety experts at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and five other institutions.
Toddler takes first steps with new prosthetic limbs

Archie Barton a threeyearold from Devon who lost both his legs to meningitis has taken his first ever steps thanks to his new prosthetic limbs. Archie was struck down with meningitis when he was just 18 months old and the severe septicaemia that followed caused him to have both his legs amputated. The infection also claimed a number of fingers, part of an ear and the tip of his nose and he also suffered terrible visual impairment.
