Don't lose sleep through snoring

There are an estimated 15million snorers in the UK, two thirds of them male and most over 50. New research by Which? magazine suggests that 59 per cent of people who live with a snorer have their sleep regularly disrupted and 23 per cent often sleep in a different bedroom from their partner because of snoring. "It's a huge problem and the effects can be serious," says Joanna Pearl, a senior health researcher at Which? "It can break up relationships and leave people feeling quite desperate."

Expensive treatments for snoring are more likely to keep you awake rather than providing a peaceful night's sleep a consumer watchdog has warned. More than 70 per cent of people who have tried the over-the-counter remedies found they do not work, the study by Which? concluded. Which? tested various remedies on nearly 2,000 of its members who suffer from excessive snoring. Supposed snoring cures included wire up the nostrils, nasal strips and even a three month singing course on a CD.
