High doses of statins cause high rates of side effects like muscle pain and weakness

High doses of the most commonly used statin have high rates of side-effects, a study has revealed. Muscle pain and weakness, can occur when simvastatin is taken in 80mg doses. The British Heart Foundation said 'It is likely that only a small number of people are being treated with 80mg of simvastatin, but anyone experiencing unusual muscle symptoms - should talk to their GP.'
