Virginia Ironside’s Dilemmas: Should my daughter have a psychological assessment?

(The Independent 09/03/2009)

My nine-year-old daughter has always been somewhat "different" from birth. She is very obsessive and affectionate to everyone - sometimes quite inappropriately. Antisocial behaviour hormone link

(BBC 01/10/2008)

Low levels of the stress hormone cortisol have been linked to antisocial behaviour in adolescent boys. Cortisol levels in the body usually surge in stressful situations, thought to help people regulate emotions. A Cambridge university study found this did not happen in boys with a history of severe antisocial behaviour. Researchers suggest some bad behaviour may be linked to a chemical imbalance.
