Mandelson applauds NHS after op

Business Secretary Lord Mandelson has praised the NHS after a "very successful" operation to deal with an enlarged prostate gland. Lord Mandelson, who is also the First Secretary of State, underwent surgery at St Mary's Hospital, west London, on Friday and remained there overnight. He said he was "very proud to be an NHS patient" and thanked staff as he left. Lord Mandelson was in charge of the government last week as he covered for the prime minister, who is on holiday.

Lord Mandelson the Business Secretary has been admitted to hospital for a "routine" prostate operation a spokesman for the Department for Business Innovation and Skills has said. He has a "benign condition of the prostate," the spokesman added. Lord Mandelson, 55, is at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, central London. He is expected to remain in hospital overnight, the spokesman said.
Sports stars warn of disease threat

SPORTING celebrities will today help launch an awareness campaign for prostate disease. Craig Levein, the Dundee United manager, and Chris Paterson, the Scotland rugby international, have taken part in a film alerting people to the threat of prostate disease. Paterson said: "With so many men in Scotland being affected by prostate disease, it is important that more people are aware of it."
