LifeCoach: lowfibre diets and BodyPump classes

My girlfriend has an odd habit of pulling out her hairs from the root (trichotillomania). She doesn't seem aware that she's doing it but I've noticed that it becomes more frequent when she's stressed. She has suffered from clinical depression in the past and I read somewhere that this is a form of self-harm. Should I be worried about her?
Getting to the root of it... woman has UK's first eyelash transplant

Louise Thomas, 19, from Stockport, had the treatment because she suffers from trichotillomania - obsessive plucking or pulling out hair. The four-hour procedure involves taking hair from the back of the head, and placing individual hairs into cuts in the eyelid. Impulsive hair-pulling, or trichotillomania, is a recognised but little understood medical condition. Experts believe there is a genetic element to it, but stress also appears to play a part. Neomie De Costa, now 47, was 11 when she started tearing her hair out. "It was a very difficult year for me. "A lot fell apart at that age. "I'd recently lost my grandfather, my parents were divorcing and my sister who I was very close to was getting married and moving away."
Pill for hair-pulling compulsion
(BBC 07/07/2009)
A simple supplement could help treat people with an impulse disorder that manifests in hair-tearing, say experts. Trichotillomania suffers are blighted by uncontrollable urges to pluck the hair of the scalp and even eyebrows and lashes, often to the point of baldness. Although seen as a behavioural and psychological problem, scientists are hopeful that the problem could be solved with an amino acid pill. Archives of General Psychiatry reports promising early trial findings.
