Male bulimia

A man who spent years struggling with bulimia has set up a website for men with eating disorders because he says most of the help available is aimed at women. More than a million people have eating disorders in the UK. Between 10 and 20% of people with the condition are men, according to research from eating disorder charity Beat. The website creator says he hopes his website will help men talk about the condition more.

Estimates suggest one million people in Britain suffer from an eating disorder, but despite the fact they claim more lives than any other mental illness, official figures only show the number of people admitted to hospital. The charity Beat says hospital admissions only account for the most serious eating disorder cases and people who visit a GP about their condition should also be included in the figures, to provide a better picture of the problem.
