Aspirin 'could cut liver damage'
(BBC 27/01/2009)
A dose of aspirin may be able to prevent liver damage caused by paracetamol or heavy drinking, suggest researchers. They believe it interferes with a chemical pathway that triggers damaging inflammation within the organ.

Scientists found paracetamol overdose patients who suffer the greatest liver damage have higher levels of a protein known as cyclophilin A in their urine. The University of Edinburgh team says treatments to block the harmful effects of the protein may aid such patients. Around 200 people die each year in the UK following a paracetamol overdose.
How parents 'overdose their children on cough medicines to keep them quiet'
(Daily Mail 19/12/2008)
A study of 189 US children who died from medication overdoses showed that, in one in 10 cases, the parents knew they were over-treating their child.'This is a heads up,' said Dr. Richard Dart, director of the Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Center in Denver. In 79 of the cases, an adult gave the child nonprescription medicine, the team reports in the journal Annals of Emergency Medicine.
