Nip, tuck? Cornwall promoted as plastic surgery tourist spot

A national campaign to promote Cornwall as a so-called plastic surgery tourism destination is being supported by the county's tourist board. In the adverts by the Duchy Hospital in national newspapers and magazines, Visit Cornwall says it can link private patients with local accommodation. The hospital in Truro said it saw many patients from out of the county and expected numbers to increase. Visit Cornwall said it was keen to help promote growing markets.

Tens and possibly hundreds of thousands of people are estimated to have died in Iraq in the recent years of war and violence, and many more have been injured. Those injuries from explosions and car bombs often cause long lasting damage and demand subsequent treatment. But its not available in Iraq. The UN estimates that more than 400 specialised doctors have left Iraq since hostilities began in 2003, hundreds of others have been killed.

BRITISH cosmetic surgeons have launched the world's first insurance scheme to cover botched operations amid growing concern over the number of procedures that end in legal disputes. The industry is offering a £300 policy that pays out if operations on patients including breast implants, tummy tucks and facelifts go wrong as a result of mistakes or unforseen complications.

A British soldier who went to repair an army vehicle which was under fire in Iraq in 2006 has spent the last two years rebuilding his life after being shot in the head. Simon Brown survived but lost one eye completely and 90% of the vision in the other. The 30-year-old, who's from Morley in West Yorkshire, joined the army as a mechanic when he was 18 years old.

Models with "anatomically impossible" breasts are being used to seduce female clients to undergo cosmetic surgery that creates "unrealistic expectations", senior plastic surgeons said yesterday. The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) said digitally enhanced pictures of bikini-clad women in ecstatic poses should be banned in advertisements.
Breast enlargement ops soar to over 6,000 a year

Delegates to the annual conference of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) were told the number of procedures for breast enlargements carried out by its members had risen 275 per cent - from 2,361 operations in 2002 to 6,497 in 2007. As well as the rise in procedures, the research also claims there has been a decline in the number of complications.
