Finance guardian for US octuplets
(BBC 28/07/2009)
A judge in California has appointed a guardian to look after the financial interests of octuplets born in January. The move follows an announcement that their mother, Nadya Suleman, had signed a deal allowing her children to appear in a reality TV show. The six boys and two girls are the world's longest surviving octuplets. The series will also feature Ms Suleman's six other children, none of whom is older than eight. Collectively, the 14 youngsters will earn $250,000.
Twins' mothers 'need more advice'
(BBC 06/07/2009)
Two thirds of parents of twins and multiple births are being denied access to vital birth advice, a poll suggests. The charity Tamba (Twins and Multiple Births Association) says such support improves outcomes and can help prevent post-natal depression. Advice should include how to breastfeed many mouths and where to seek help. Only 36% of 1,300 mothers it surveyed had been offered specific parenting education sessions to prepare them for caring for twins, triplets or more.

Family delight over identical triplet boys
(BBC 12/05/2009)
A 28-year-old mother from Norfolk has more than doubled the size of her family with the birth of triplet boys. Ken and Emma Spooner's new babies are particularly special because they are identical. The chance of this occurring naturally is one in 150,000. The brothers joined their sister Molly, eight, and brother Jacob, five, at home in Cockley Cley near Swaffham. Identical triplets are born when one fertilised egg splits to create three separate embryos.

In excerpts from a TV interview yet to be broadcast, Nadya Suleman said she wanted to make up for the loneliness she felt growing up as an only child. The case has sparked a debate over the ethics of her treatment.

Premature octuplets 'doing well'
(BBC 27/01/2009)
All eight babies born prematurely in the US are breathing on their own and doing "very, very well", doctors say.
(BBC 27/01/2009)
A set of octuplets has been born in California, a decade after a Nigerian woman became the first to deliver eight living babies into the world. There are just a handful of recorded cases involving eight or even nine babies, and there are no such sets where all have survived. The largest multiple birth we know about was nonuplets in Australia in 1971 - all died within six days.
