Memory loss woman wins £4m payout

(BBC 15/10/2009)

A woman who was left with a 10-minute memory after medical staff failed to spot a brain haemorrhage has won compensation of more than £4m. Cristina Malcolm from Durham collapsed with a headache in 2002 but was diagnosed with a virus, and later suffered a more serious haemorrhage. The 41-year-old now needs round-the-clock care from husband Sandy. Two hospital trusts and her then-GP, Dr James Harrison, have apologised for the failings.

(BBC 12/01/2009)

An ice-skating star's baby has been born two days after she collapsed and died from a brain haemorrhage, a hospital has confirmed. Doctors at Oxford's John Radcliffe hospital kept Jayne Soliman's heart beating until they had delivered her baby daughter Aya Jayne on Friday. Baby Aya was born prematurely at 25 weeks by Caesarean section.

Teenager died of brain haemorrhage... after doctors denied her a vital scan

(Daily Mail 05/01/2009)

But medical staff thought the 16-year-old simply had a stomach infection and did not offer a brain scan. A week later she died of a brain haemorrhage.
