19th Century cardinal 'answered cure prayers'

A US clergyman has told of how he was cured of a crippling spinal condition after praying to a 19th Century Birmingham theologian. In September Pope Benedict XVI approved claims Cardinal Newman miraculously cured Deacon Jack Sullivan. Deacon Sullivan, of Boston, Massachusetts, said he started walking to the "utter amazement" of doctors. He was talking at the start of his UK tour during which he will visit London, Birmingham and Oxford.

Alex suffers from Coffin-Siris syndrome, which affects just 16 people in the UK and 80 worldwide. There is no-one with the condition who has lived beyond the age of 30. Her mother Helen, 39, a teacher said: 'When she was three she had to spend 23 hours a day in a full body cast to help her condition.'At four her spine was twisted to 50 degrees and then by 10 it was 70 degrees.'
