Acupuncture can relieve pregnancy indigestion, says study

ACUPUNCTURE can help relieve the symptoms of indigestion in pregnancy, research out today suggests. A study involving 36 women found "significant improvements" among those treated with acupuncture. Digestive disorders are one of the most frequent complaints in pregnancy, with 45 to 80 per cent of women reporting heartburn, pain or discomfort, regurgitation, belching and bloating [small study].

Fake acupuncture 'as effective as needle'

SIMULATED versions of acupuncture may be as effective at treating chronic back pain as the ancient Chinese needle therapy, a new study has revealed. Researchers found that patients given the procedure, including a "fake version", were much more likely to feel pain relief than those given normal remedies. But findings published last night in a medical journal suggest that belief in the benefits of acupuncture may be the key to its success.

Acupuncture 'works for headaches'

Traditional acupuncture is effective at preventing headaches, a scientific review finds - but so is a sham form. Cochrane reviewed 33 separate trials into acupuncture and its so-called "sham" counterpart (insertion of needles - but not into traditional "energy points"). The scientist leading the review said - putting needles into particular locations might not be that important.
