The number of young people getting help for a cocaine problem is rising. New statistics for England show almost 3,000 18-24 year olds received treatment for addiction to the drug for the first time over the last year. However, the National Treatment Agency reports a sharp fall in the numbers getting help for heroin - fewer young adults appear to be taking the drug. Newsbeat spoke to Barry, 22, who used to spend £600 a month on cocaine and has jus finished a period of treatment.
Cocaine 'vaccine' could combat addiction

An experimental vaccine against cocaine addiction could be used to wean users off the drug research has shown. In a US trial of the vaccine around 40 per cent of treated individuals were protected, but only for two months. Many stopped taking cocaine or reduced their consumption after having the jab. Previous research has shown that immune system antibodies can deactivate cocaine before the drug enters the brain.
Craig Charles: 'I spent '£250,000 on crack'

Craig Charles has admitted blowing a quarter of a million pounds on crack cocaine while starring in Coronation Street. The shamed star of cult series, Red Dwarf, who was exposed as a sleazy drug user in a Sunday tabloid in 2006, has revealed the level of his addiction to the drug. Charles, 44, was spending the week filming up in Manchester, away from his second wife in Hampshire, when things began to unravel.
Adverts warn of cocaine dangers

The adverts feature a fictional dog called Pablo, who is used as a "mule" to carry cocaine by drug dealers. The dog seeks out coke users to find out what happens to them and in one advert, watches a young woman have a heart attack. The UK has recorded the highest number of cocaine users in the EU.
'Cocaine addiction gene' discovered

A study of 670 cocaine addicts found they were 25% more likely to carry the gene variant than people who did not use the drug. Rainer Spanagel at the Central Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim, Germany, who led the study, said: "If you are a carrier of this gene variant the likelihood of getting addicted to cocaine is higher. You can certainly use this as a vulnerability marker for cocaine addiction."

He was hiding his addiction from his wife and his employers and his eight-grams-a-day-habit was costing him thousands.
