Concern over ebola virus in pigs

A form of Ebola virus has been detected in pigs for the first time, raising concerns it could mutate and pose a new risk to humans. Ebola-Reston virus (REBOV) has only previously been seen in monkeys and humans - and has not caused illness. But researchers are concerned that pigs might provide a melting pot where the virus could mutate into something more menacing for humans.

Four more Filipinos have been shown to have contracted the Ebola Reston virus, a finding that increases the likelihood that pig-to-human transmission took place, health officials said Friday. The Philippine Health Secretary said there now are 5 known cases of possible pig-to-human transmission of the virus.
Ebola alert shuts Angolan borders

The authorities in Angola say they have closed part of the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo to prevent the spread of the deadly Ebola virus. The outbreak in DR Congo was the first in Africa in several months and the fourth in DR Congo since 1976. It is believed to have infected at least 40 people of which more than ten have died.
