'Viagra cream' could prove safer
(BBC 19/09/2009)
A cream allowing erectile dysfunction drugs to be applied directly to the skin could one day make them safer to use, say New York scientists. Studies in rats suggest that Viagra, Levitra and Cialis could pass through the skin in tiny capsules, they say. The research, published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, could mean fewer side-effects, and even significantly speed up the drug's action. However, it could be a decade before creams are fully ready for use.
How the smell of rotten eggs may boost some men's sex lives
(BBC 03/03/2009)
The gas responsible for the foul odour of rotten eggs could hold the key to a new impotence drug, experts believe. A team from the University of Naples Federico II in Italy found the release of hydrogen sulphide in the penis plays a role in creating an erection. Researchers said the study could lead to an alternative to Viagra, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science journal reported.
Poster advert gives rise to complaints
(BBC 18/02/2009)
Hundreds of complaints over billboard adverts featuring the word "sex" in giant lettering have been upheld by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). The 522 complaints were against an advert by the Advanced Medical Institute (AMI), which offers treatment to men with sexual problems. The billboard posters used the slogan "Want longer lasting sex?"...
One-a-day impotence pill 'is better than Viagra'... and available free on the NHS
(Daily Mail 03/02/2009)
A one-a-day impotence pill which allows men to have sex whenever they want is available on the NHS from today. The makers of Cialis say it is superior to its predecessor Viagra because the effects last much longer - up to 36 hours compared to Viagra's four. It has been licensed for daily use for the first time, freeing men from having to take a pill just before sex.
Alcohol can help men 'perform better' in bedroom
(The Scotsman 26/01/2009)
A study of 1,580 Australians tested the theory that alcohol consumption could cause erectile dysfunction or "brewer's droop." The findings revealed that the reverse may be true, with drinkers reporting as much as 30% fewer problems than teetotallers. Dr Kew-Kim Chew said: "These findings suggest a favourable association between low-risk drinking and positive erectile function."
Why gardening boosts men's performance in the bedroom
(Daily Mail 15/01/2009)
Researchers studied 674 men aged 45 to 60 and found burning up just 1,000 calories a week through exercise had a significant impact on impotence risk. This is the daily equivalent to 30 to 45 minutes of gardening, dancing for half an hour, cycling four miles in 15 minutes or jogging 1.5 miles. Men who garden more vigorously, will burn up even more calories.
Over-the-counter Viagra bid ends
(BBC 20/11/2008)
The makers of the anti-impotence drug Viagra have withdrawn an application for the medicine to be available without a prescription. Pfizer took the decision after a European Medicines Agency committee said there would be too little medical oversight - meaning related problems like heart disease could be missed. Around 35 million men have taken Viagra globally since its launch a decade ago.
(The Scotsman 17/11/2008)
Mexico City is giving out free Viagra and other impotence drugs to men 70 and older. The Mayor said the city is implementing the plan because sexuality "has a lot to do with quality of life and our happiness." The government will start handing out doses of one or two Viagra, Levitra or Cialis pills on December 1. They will be distributed at three centres that specialise in sexual health for the elderly.
'King of Viagra' jailed for fraud
(BBC 14/10/2008)
Dr George Patino, supposedly known online as the "King of Viagra", sold thousands of counterfeit impotence tablets to customers via the web. He pleaded guilty at Kingston Crown Court and was described a "disgrace to his profession" by the judge. The fake Viagra tablets were mostly sold through the internet, with as many as 200 orders being placed everyday.
