Born survivor Jasmine Tanner celebrates first birthday

(Telegraph 21/09/2009)

Jasmine Tanner a girl who had to have 11 blood transfusions before she was born has celebrated her first birthday. Jasmine developed a rare condition known as rhesus disease which means that antibodies in her mother's blood attack the baby's blood cells in the womb. Doctors had to inject donated blood directly into the umbilical cord until she was delivered by caesarean section at 34 weeks. She was then taken to Southampton General Hospital where she received three further transfusions.
