Scar-reducing drug shows promise

(BBC 10/04/2009)

A drug designed to reduce scarring after surgery or injury has shown promising results in early human trials, UK researchers say. Avotermin was tested in healthy volunteers with scars monitored over the period of a year. The wounds injected with the treatment were less red, raised and visible than those treated with a dummy drug, The Lancet medical journal reported.

Insulin hope

(BBC 15/03/2009)

Each year in the UK six million people undergo some sort of surgical procedure. Many are left with scars. Now a group of scientists think they have come up with a way of reducing all scarring, including those from burns and trauma. The scientists have found that by injecting insulin within a short time of the injury they can have a real impact on reducing formation of scar tissue.
