Record rise in male breast tissue ops

MALE breast reduction operations across the UK have increased by more than 1,000 per cent in five years. The figures were revealed by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons at its conference in Cardiff. In 2003, it dealt with 22 such operations but there were 323 last year %u2013 including on teenage boys.

Demand for surgery on 'manboobs' grows

RECORD numbers of Scottish men are having cosmetic surgery on their "manboobs" in an attempt to shed the condition that often attracts more derision than sympathy. Private treatment to reduce the excess fat on male chests almost doubled in Scotland last year from 22 to 40 operations despite an average cost of around £4,000. Figures for this year from one clinic, Transform, show that the trend remains upwards in 2009, despite the credit crunch and recession.

'Man boob' ops on the increase

One of the UK's top doctors says he's seen a rise in the number of men having breast reduction surgery. Gynaecomastia, is a medical condition that causes tissue in the chest area to develop like a female breast. There's usually no clear cause but doctors say sometimes men get it because of hormonal problems in the body - having more of the female hormone oestrogen than normal.
