Every month, Michelle Barker would miss a couple of days of university because of her period. And every month, for up to 10 days before her period, she would be angry, anxious or depressed. Her attendance got so bad that her tutors were worried she was not capable of completing the course and warned her she would be asked to leave.

Could this pill cure the agony of severe period pains?

A new British-developed pill (for period pains), starting its first human trials in Edinburgh, will work directly on the uterus and target these excessive contractions caused by vasopressin, a natural hormone. Known as VA111913, the new drug is a vasopressin antagonist designed to bring the hormone down to normal levels, reducing contractions and hence the pain.
